Tamara GalinskyTamara comes to art therapy with a deep commitment to helping others on their personal journeys of self-exploration and understanding, particularly with regard for gender and sexual identity. She is passionate about providing a safe, supportive, non-judgmental atmosphere in which to examine issues related to relationships, intimacy, sexual function, and sexual fantasy & desire. Tamara has extensive experience working with people of all genders and sexualities and clients who are in polyamorous, swinger, and/or kink-based relationships are welcome.

Tamara is a board certified registered art therapist (ATR-BC #14-095), as well as a Licensed Clinical Professional Art Therapist in Maryland (LCPAT #AT103) and a Licensed Professional Counselor in Washington DC (#PRC 146383). She possesses a lifelong love of art and a desire to help people access new and different parts of themselves. Tamara combines traditional talk therapy techniques with a diverse assortment of art media in order to help clients unlock and embrace their true selves, make peace with the past, and realize their full potential.

Tamara has used art therapy to treat symptoms of depression and anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, self-injurious behavior, substance abuse, and eating disorders. She has also worked with survivors of acute trauma and chronic neglect, and found that art therapy can help these clients achieve successful interpersonal relationship, enhance self-awareness, develop healthy coping strategies, and improve general quality of life.

Tamara believes in the ability of art to heal even the most broken soul.

Tamara holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Smith College and a Master’s in Art Therapy from The George Washington University. She is a member of the American Art Therapy Association, as well as the Potomac Art Therapy Association, and is active in the DC and Maryland LGBTQ communities.
